Since 1997 Farmers' Markets have popped up all over the country. At a Farmers' Market, local producers (mainly from a 30 mile radius) sell their produce that they have grown, raised or produced themselves. You will find a wide seasonal selection of local produce, often characteristic of the area. Buying from a Farmers' Market has several benefits:
- An opportunity for you to buy fresh produce that has not travelled a long distance and hasn't got a lot of packaging
- As farmers and producers sell their produce at Farmers' Markets without using a middleman you can buy at affordable prices
- The price you pay goes straight into the farmers' or producers' pocket and will be used to further develop his business
- An opportunity for you to meet and talk to the farmer or producer
- You give a small farmer who doesn't meet supermarket quantity demands the opportunity to survive
- By supporting small farmers you contribute to keeping the countryside alive.
- By supporting a Farmers' Market you invigorate the town centre and bring the spirit of community back
